When a child loses his favorite toy, he feels anxious and unwell. When his friends are not with him, he feels incomplete and lifeless. I think I feel the same way right at this moment.
Since last week, Ragnarok Online Philippines, particularly Baldur server was chinked by a technical problem. It prohibits international players to access the game that is why the typical 4000~5000 players got an all time low of barely 2800 online users. This is because like in real life, Filipinos are everywhere. I think every country has a Filipino working or residing in it. This is not far from the scenario of gamers who play overseas. International Filipino Players, or Overseas Filipino Players play a vital role in maintaining the game. How? 95% of them are working, has 24/7 internet access and most importantly, can pay for the load. That is the main difference to local gamers, who are mostly dependent on their allowances and are just playing it casually.
One of my friends play from Guam. My girlfriend from Japan. A small community of young kids from Texas. An acquaintance from France. Am I affected? The hell I am. For normal people who doesn’t even care for gamers like us, Ragnarok is just a mere game. For gamers, it is another perspective. Ragnarok made international gamers feel closer to home, it bridged the distances between relatives who also play. For me, it helped me express what I want to share to her even if those are just petty pixels of food or bouquets. It feels like the real thing.
Out of boredom my friend from Guam and England gave this blog by Kaliwanagan, I’m not into the tech-stuff but I’m sure something is awfully wrong. If this is true I really don’t know who are where or how to believe the currents of this game.
