IV Therapy Training: Tiring but very Rewarding
Jun 27th, 2007 by SniperAngel

Almost done with my Intravenous Therapy Case Completion, if only that Blood Transfusion case was mine. Oh well. But despite the tiring day, all went well and it is actually more exciting and rewarding that I thought. Lagi na lang kasing pinangungunahan ng kaba.
The requirement is that the training nurse should perform:
- 6 Intravenous Line Insertions
- 6 Intravenous Drug Pushes
- 2 Blood Transfusions
The IV Push and Blood Transfusions are actually easy and can be completed even before the shift ends. But considering that there are only seven cases of Blood Transfusion to what, more than ten trainees? Almost like a roll of a dice. But it is ok with me.
I’m very grateful that the duty nurses are very considerate and helpful. Well IV Insertions are easy, on patients with normal skin integrity or appearance. But it looks like I’m in for a treat.
- Patient 1: Severely dehydrated.Blood vessels are extremely sunken and difficult to palpate.
- Patient 2: Not sure but his arms are dark, and blood vessels are dark colored as well.
- Patient 3: Pediatric with thin arms and cries so loud he is like a living siren. Not the mermaid, but a swallowed ambulance horn.
- Patient 4: Same with patient 1 but with darker complexion.
- Patient 5. Same with patient 3 but his arms are so pale and blood vessels [even leg veins] are very small even gauge 24 gave me a hard time.
- Patient 6: Extremely brittle blood vessels.
But despite the pressure I made it. Just one more case to hurdle tomorrow. It was fun, so fun it feels like graduating from college. Lol. I treated my area-mates with Pizza. Well, at least my typical impression to student nurses or staff nurses as cold-hearted, inconsiderate missionaries of love well I would have to consider a new impression. Not all of them. ![]()
