Mirror of a Gamer’s Realm: A sweet but still intact escape from reality

Play is an important part of our childhood, it will determine how will your fare in the future, how your confidence builds up or topples down. These days, play is no longer limited to children. It encompasses any age, any social or civil status, everything. No wonder some of successful people nowadays are also avid gamers at heart.
Decades ago games are considered as a mere form of entertainment. It is only limited to pre-adolescent individuals who go crazy over game cartridges and stuff. That was before. Now gaming gets a huge leap on basically every aspect. To entertain, to challenge one’s mind, to contend with the best. A commencing battle between other individuals who share the same passion on gaming.
It is said that games serve as a sweet escape from the stressful iRL [in Real Life]. Once a player logs onto his alterworld, the virtual environment of the game he plays gives this fulfilling and energized aura. Despite the fact that in-game is also a busy new world, it is a refuge for most of the gamers because they can do whatever they wanted to do. It is their world now and can only be reached by other gamers. No nasty homeworks, no annoying business meetings, no nothing. Simply paradise.
This temporary bliss can only be understood by another gamer, a player who can experience the same feelings that you relish. The quests in game that are as good as accomplishing a thesis paper, or a boss hunt that feels like winning a basketball championship. Mirror of a gamer’s realm indeed, on a deeper perspective.
Of all the MMOGs available nowadays it is not that hard to imagine how you’ll be able to find your own sanctuary. And once you’re already there, everytime you go home from school or work, it will be another sweet escape.
This is a reflection to GM Tristan’s Group Writing Project, and I’ll be writing for 6 weeks for the participation of this project.
